This cultural trek is perfect for those who wish to have a cultural experience along with the adventurous trekking trail of the Everest region.
Everest Cultural Trek is an incredible journey to appreciate the beautiful high mountain views along with the traditional and cultural lifestyle of the Sherpa people. Sherpa's are historically and culturally wealthy people who live in the mountain region and are most famous as mountaineering experts. The trek takes you through traditional Sherpa villages around the Khumbu region, enjoying the rugged route, stony terrain, Mani Walls, mountains, and Buddhist monasteries.
You will get to explore the Gumila Monastery, one of the most prominent gompas in the area and home to the Gelugpa Sect monks, the youngest Tibetan Buddhist group, followed by other famous Monasteries in Namche, Thame, Kunde, Photse, and Pangboche. Then visit the main attraction of this trek, the famous Tengboche Monastery. Tengboche Monastery is one of Nepal's most prominent monasteries, possibly owing to its unrivalled Mt. Ama Dablam backdrop. In this monastery, a resident Rinpoche blesses passing pilgrims, mountaineers, and travellers, and it is also the Khumbu region's leading Buddhist centre. If you arrive at the time of the Mani Rimdu Festival, you will witness the mask dance of the monks of Tengboche Monastery. On the way back to Lukla, we will explore the monastery of Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
Everest Cultural Trek is an ideal short trek with a perfect combination of Nepal's culture, traditions, and adventure in the Everest region.
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will pick you up at the airport and drive to the assigned hotel where you will meet the rest of the group. The hotel is located in a quiet quaint neighborhood, where you can enjoy shopping, restaurants, and cafes.
Please look for the I.A.M TREKKING board at the opposite railing of the terminal.
Early in the morning we will take a short 35 mins flight to Lukla. After breakfast, we leave Lukla behind and trek a 3-4-hour walk to Toktok village on the Everest Base Camp trekking route.
Once we reach the village, we will rest at the lodge. In the evening, we will explore Gumila Monastery, one of the most prominent gompas in the area and home to the Gelugpa Sect monks, the youngest Tibetan Buddhist group.
After an early morning breakfast, we will trek slowly via a dense oak and pine forest along with the Dudh Koshi River. Then, after a 3-hour walk, we will cross Monjo, crossing many suspension bridges with a great view of Mt. Thamserku (5,874 m).
We register our permit and move up steeply through the high suspension bridge to Namche Bazar (3,440 m), the Everest region's commercial centre, which takes about 3 hours.
Before arriving at Namche, we will be greeted with glimpses of Kusum Kangaru (6,367 m), Mt. Thamserku, Konde-Ri, and Taboche Peak (6,367 m).
We will start early in the morning for a sunrise view hike to Everest View Hotel (3,962 m) behind Namche. The ascent is gruelling but rewarding with a fabulous view of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Thamserku (6,623 m), and others.
After breakfast at Namche, we will visit the Namche Gumba and then head northwest along a dusty, rocky track that winds leisurely up and down through alpine forest of pines and juniper. Along the way, we will explore the Mende Gumba, get lunch and head continue towards Thamo village.
We will continue on the high trail above the river to the small village of Samde and then descend to the valley floor, cross a suspension bridge and ascend briefly to arrive at Thame. In this section, the settlements are sparse but the villagers are more welcoming.
Thame, a.k.a, the valley of mountaineers, has a long history and was the most important settlement in the Khumbu. It was the highest village, inhabited year-round when salt trading was at its peak between Nepal, Tibet and India.
We will have the afternoon at leisure and in the evening we will visit Dechen Chokhorling Monastery, also called Thame Gumba.
At first, our trek was a mild descent back along the Bhote Kosi Valley trail, which we climbed yesterday. Nevertheless, before entering Namche, the path turns south and we climb a steep valley path that winds its way along the valley slopes above Namche and leads us to the pretty little village of Khunde.
You are rewarded from here with spectacular views of Mt. Thamserku(6,608 m) and Mt. Katanga (6,685 m). We will have lunch and visit the village of Khunde once we reach it and walk uphill towards the village of Khumjung.
For the rest of the day, we will explore Khumjung village.
The road to Phortse Village is rather steep, but it offers marvellous landscapes over Phortse and underneath the river's majestic gorge, including a rare natural rock bridge. Moving ahead, we walk through the steps of the stone and enter Mong, from where we get a magnificent view of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Mt. Khumbila.
Going down to Dudh Koshi Khola, we cross a bridge and walk through the rhododendron forest. Finally, we reach Phortse. Phortse is just below the Taboche Peak (6,367 m) and Cholatse (6,335 m) snow-dusted summits. In the evening, we will visit Phortse Thakri Chholing Gomba and back.
Today, we head east to the village of Phortse continuing on the rugged trail of the ridges overlooking Amadablam's fantastic scenery and the Pangboche Gumba, the oldest monastery in the region. Visit the monastery and walk down to Debuche. And in the evening, we'll visit Ani Gumba.
The rest of the day is leisure.
Today, we'll reach the Tengboche Monastery after a few hours of descent.
In October, the Tengboche Monastery celebrates the vibrant Mani Rimdu festival, which is a celebration of Buddhist festivities with a religious assembly, songs, ceremonial dances, and iconic figure life enactments.
We will descend back to Monjo after visiting the monastery, passing several suspension bridges and the villages.
Leaving Monjo, we walk past several Sherpa villages along the Bhote Koshi River, and we arrive in Lukla through rhododendron and magnolia forest.
We rest for a few hours, and in the evening we will visit Lukla Monastery and its surroundings.
Today after breakfast, we will take a short 50-minute flight back to Kathmandu with our guide. Once at Kathmandu airport, we will drive back to our hotel.
The rest of the day is leisure.
